Like the people who gathered on the mountainside to listen to Jesus, we gather by Siena’s lakeside for Lenten renewal of our love and commitment. Jesus saw in the people both fatigue and hope and he honored this in his Beatitudes. We too may come feeling “poor in spirit, hungering and thirsting for justice, needing mercy.”

As we take in Jesus’ astonishing words “blessed are you,” may we open our knapsacks to find and share our stories of grace–and go forth with awakened gifts for the world.

Miriam Brown, OP, a Sinsinawa Dominican, is a spiritual guide, retreat facilitator, and presenter on current spirituality themes. Miriam holds a master’s degree in Religious Studies from Fordham University and directed an ecumenical organization for 13 years. Miriam has an eye for the Spirit’s movement in the world and flowing in each person’s precious life.
