Freewill Offering: This event is offered free of charge. Freewill offerings are gratefully accepted. Once registered, participants may drop in any Monday throughout the year. While weekly attendance is not required, regular participation is encouraged, as the benefits of movement, time outdoors, and connection grow when practiced consistently.

Weather Policy: The walk will be canceled if road conditions make travel to the center unsafe. On such days, cancellation updates will be posted here on the Siena Retreat Center website by 7am that morning. If conditions are simply uncomfortable but safe to travel, the outdoor walk may be shortened or cancelled, but the fellowship hour will still take place inside! Please check the website before heading out, wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather!

A Blue Zones Inspired Weekly Walk

Join us every Thursday morning for a 1.5 mile loop around the Siena grounds!

This weekly walk is inspired by research on longevity and well-being, including studies of regions around the world where people tend to live longer, healthier lives. Researchers have observed lifestyle patterns shared across these communities, including frequent natural movement, strong social connections, a sense of purpose, and built-in practices to manage stress.

Footsteps & Fellowship brings some of the Blue Zones principles into a gentle, weekly practice. We walk at a relaxed, conversational pace, enjoying the fresh air and the beauty of the grounds. After the walk, participants are welcome to come inside to enjoy coffee/tea/juice, or use the creativity room, mind and body wellness space, prayer room, and reading nooks. You might continue a conversation, spend time in quiet reflection, work on something meaningful, or simply enjoy a peaceful space before you start your day!

General Fitness Requirements
While this is by no means a structured fitness class, participants should have a general level of mobility and stamina to feel comfortable walking up to 1.5 miles over the varied terrain found on the campus, including paved paths, grass, and woodchips, with a gentle incline along a small portion of the route.

Registration Requirement
You must register initially in order to participate. By registering, you acknowledge that you are voluntarily participating in a walking program, understand the physical nature of the activity, accept responsibility for your own health and safety during participation, and are participating at your own risk.
